ABOUT
What is Kirq
Kirq is a quantum communication testbed that combines quantum and classical technologies in real-world conditions. Kirq thus helps to reduce costs and minimise the risks faced by organisations and businesses when implementing these emerging technologies.
Our goals
Kirq’s objectives are fully aligned with Numana’s ambitions.
Accelerating technological development: To provide a neutral platform for testing, validating and developing quantum communication technologies under real-world conditions, thereby accelerating their transition to commercialisation.
Fostering collaborative innovation: To promote partnerships between researchers, businesses and public institutions to encourage open innovation and knowledge sharing.
Strengthening Quebec’s leadership: Positioning Quebec as a leading player in the field of quantum technologies at national and international level. Developing a dynamic ecosystem capable of attracting funding and strategic collaborations from global players.
Contributing to the development of a skilled workforce: Support the development of highly qualified personnel by creating opportunities for learning and specialisation in quantum technologies.
Preparing for the adoption of quantum communication technologies: Serve as a neutral testing ground for interoperability and standardisation. Provide an independent and open platform for evaluating and comparing the performance of different technologies and suppliers.
Numana is the organisation responsible for the creation of Kirq and its operations. We are a not-for-profit organization that acts as a technology macro-accelerator. By mobilizing the private, public, academic and community sectors, Numana develops and propels high-impact projects so that tomorrow’s technologies can emerge, be tested and adopted, and benefit society as a whole.
Kirq : a direct response
to federal priorities
Quantum communications and crypto-readiness
Kirq offers hybrid testbeds (classical and quantum) for testing QKD, post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and secure network architectures in real-world and controlled environments.
National security and critical infrastructure
Kirq enables organisations to anticipate quantum-related threats and strengthen the resilience of defence, energy, telecommunications, transport and financial networks ahead of large-scale deployments.
Commercialisation and adoption
By reducing technological and financial risks, Kirq accelerates industrial adoption, facilitates public-private collaboration and positions Quebec as a leading testing ground.
A pivotal role at the national level
Bridging the gap between research and the market, Kirq provides a neutral and open infrastructure, essential for the practical implementation of the National Quantum Strategy.
